Sadly, I know this post will decay quickly, its usefulness inversely related to the pace of technology. However, for those who may be struggling with getting R running in the latest release of KNIME, I thought a little roadmap might be helpful.

Starting with KNIME, you will need the latest release, which is currently 3.1. You will also need to install the R extensions (File -> Install KNIME Extensions). If the extensions are already installed, you must update them. The latest for the R extensions is 3.1.1 due to an identified bug release from the tech forums.
Install or update R to version 3.2.3 'Wooden Christmas-Tree.' This is necessary due to some file structure changes in the latest OS X release. Once installed, open a terminal and start R to ensure it is working properly. While in your R session, you can take care of additional requirements.
(A quick aside: to run R in the terminal you will need XQuartz to handle the CRAN mirror selection. If you haven't already been using it, you will need to install this to install packages.)
You are going to need the Rserve package. Get or update the package [>install.packages('Rserve')], then load the library [>library(Rserve)] to ensure all is well. I also like to start the server to make sure it is successfully installed [>Rserve(args='--no-save')]. Additionally, you need the Cairo package installed. Quit the R session.
While you are in the terminal use [>which R] to obtain R's home directory. This will be important in the next steps. If you are inclined, verify the file path then use [>which R | pbcopy] to copy it to your clipboard for later use. If KNIME isn't running, get it started.

KNIME needs to know where R resides locally. This is configured in the KNIME preferences (File -> Preferences). The left hand navigation should offer a 'KNIME' item with sub-items 'R' and 'R-scripting.'

Select 'R' and in the 'Path to R Home' you will need to provide the file path to the version you just installed. If you haven't changed anything and are using the default installation, it should be (so you can copy/paste): /Library/Frameworks/R.framework/Versions/3.2/Resources

Next select the 'R-scripting' sub-menu. The only required change is at the bottom, where you need to copy the output from your 'which R' terminal output into the 'Location of R on your computer' dialogue. If nothing has changed, this should be: /usr/local/bin/R.
Press 'OK' and restart KNIME for good measure. That's it! You should be able to open an R Snippet node and use the console to ensure everything is working. Good luck, and until one of these components releases an update, you should be able to happily integrate R into your KNIME workflows.
